FCI versus AKC,
who is the best? Well, that depends on who you ask. American breeders who breed exclusively American AKC registered dogs will
say they are the best. While people who deal with FCI and RKF will say that their
dogs are better. Whether you are looking for a great companion or your next champion or breeding stock, you should investigate
each club and see what they have to offer.
You must look at the registering
clubs and see how they regulate the breeding practices of their members. FCI rules and regulations are designed to improve
individual breeds and to safeguard them from exploitation by humans. The CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) and AKC have no such regulations.
Even though FCI isn’t
perfect, (like any other bureaucracy), it definitely is making an effort to guide breeders toward breeding better dogs which
cannot be said of CKC or AKC. This is evident in the number of puppy mills and unethical breeders that abound in the US. You
just have to make a trip to a pet store to see how many AKC registered puppies are there. FCI requires that all of it’s
member clubs prohibit the sale of puppies to pet stores while the AKC and CKC allow people to breed large quantities of puppies
for sale in pet stores.
When we bought our first
Frenchie, we were told not to trust the imports that they were sickly
and that we would regret it if we did. Our first Frenchie, Monty came from a breeder in Moscow, Russia and he has been the
joy of our life. His conformation, temperment and intelligence are fantastic. I would never tell anyone to buy one way or
the other but to listen to a little of what everyone has to say, do your research, then make your own decision based on what
you have derived from your findings.
